Updates
Summer 2011
As we progress into July the weather has improved once again and I am sure
everyone is enjoying the possibility of sitting out in their garden in sunshine
not showers. It must be the magic of the Wimbledon roof! Unfortunately at
the nursery we have had to scale back our operations and will no longer be
attending the following markets: Duck Pond in Ruislip, London Fields, Bermondsey
and St John's Wood. We will be at all our other markets as per usual so look
out for all the delicious summer stock we have been propagating recently and
our brand new Loyalty card scheme where you can get a free plant for every
nine plants purchased, much like the ones you see in high street cafes. Wishing
you a great summer and look forward to seeing you soon.
June 2011
After a rather hectic April and May, everything is starting to settle down
at the nursery. We have started two new regular markets: St. Johns Wood on
a saturday, 9am till 1am, on weeks 2 and 4 of the month and Camberwell Green
on the first saturday of every month (excluding August). At the nursery itself
we are currently propagating lots of new, exciting stock ready for the start
of the summer and those autumn months which are perfect for planting up the
garden. Please do come and visit our stalls regularly, we always appreciate
your custom. Also, look out for our updated Little Coppice Nursery Facebook
Page.
April 2011
Spring has finally clicked into gear with this extended period of good weather.
All the stock at the nursery is growing tremendously well and is definitely
benefiting from being outside all winter. All our hardy and herbaceous stock
are out and ready for sale, although annuals and our range of unusual and
interesting culinary plants will be coming out slightly later as there is
still a danger of a late frost.
It has been fantastic to see lots of regulars and new customers at all our
regular markets. We are also delighted with the amount of interest we have
had at the plant fairs so far. Dont forget to look at the diary for where
and when we will be near you.
Finally, congratulations to Daniel, who passed his masters degree in Garden
History with flying colours. For any historical anecdotes on plants and gardens
he's your man.
Spring 2011
Spring has finally emerged
after another bitterly cold winter. The sun is shining, the ground is slowly
warming up and new life is emerging in the garden, which means it is time
for us to reopen our doors and return to the markets. We will be at all our
regular markets from the first weekend of March. Don't forget to check the
catalogue page for the list of plants we have for sale and if you would like
to book design or garden maintenance jobs, do get in early as the diary is
already filling up. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Autumn 2010
Autumn is a fantastic
time to plant up your garden. It provides the plants with time to bed in before
the winter months, develop good root systems and growth habits, preparing
them nicely for Spring next year. Along with our usual range of hardy perennials,
shrubs and climbers, as well as our herbs, we our bringing out to sale a large
selection of Autumn to Spring Bedding. Look out for: pansies, trailing pansies,
bellis, cowslips, pinks, sweet williams, stocks and wallflowers. Don't forget
to book your garden maintenance and design jobs for the autumn, winter and
spring as the diary is filling up fast. We are able to provide all garden
services, from mowing your lawn to a total revamp. Just enquire by sending

Summer 2010
Little Coppice remains busy as ever. We have started two new markets - Marylebone
and London Fields, both on Sundays, 10am - 2pm, on weeks 2 and 4 of the month.
Sadly, we will no longer be participating at Shabden Park Farm and Clapham
farmers markets. We are pleased to annouce that with all the new regular markets
we have taken on this year we have taken on a number of new staff. Keep an
eye out for Hannah, Amy, Jill and Kate at a market near you. If you are interested
in working for Little Coppice drop us an email as we are always on the look
out for new salespeople. Dont forget to keep your garden watered during hot
spells this summer. Have a good one!
Spring/Summer 2010
The nursery is now in full swing, especially with this fantastic weather.
Look out for new different and interesting plants arriving each week at the

March 16th

feel like spring. Sadly for reasons beyond our control we are having to postpone
our open day until later on in the year. My apologies. but we hope to see
you here in the near future.
Spring 2009
At last the dark, grim days of winter are over and, even if we get more cold weather, at least the days are getting longer. There is so much to do now with seeds to sow, borders to reassess and everything springing into life. The cold snap that we had will have done most of the plants so much good many shrubs and perennials need a sharp frost to stimulate flowering later in the year but the ice and snow-covered ground in early February has meant that a lot of jobs have been delayed. We are certainly behind with clearing up the nursery but, when it all seems too much, we stand back and enjoy the bulbs that are all flowering so well now crocus, Iris Reticulata, muscari, hyacinths, snowdrops and daffodils as well as the early-flowering shrubs. One of our most pressing tasks at the moment is getting our vegetable beds ready for what we hope will be a good crop this year. We are now sowing many different types of vegetable seeds so you will be able to select from a good choice of grow your own seedlings later this spring. As all our allotment growers know, there is nothing better than homegrown produce for taste, but dont worry if you havent got much space. Even a small window box or a pot can be used to grow something for the table such as cut and come again rocket or lettuce or how about a few herb plants? Do contact us if you have anything specific in mind that you would like us to start growing for you or if you would like some of our superb compost to put some goodness into a tired soil.
January 2009
We hope you all had a very pleasant festive season and wish you all the best for the New Year. Thank you to all our customers for your loyalty and custom and we hope to see you in February when we return to the markets. You are always welcome to come and see us but do phone or email beforehand to make sure we are in. As our regular visitors know, we are always in the disarray which behoves a working nursery, but we always have a range of interesting plants and a cup of tea or coffee to greet you with.
The days are getting longer now and there are hints of Spring in our garden and nursery with snowdrops peeping through and fragrant evergreen shrubs such as viburnums flowering at their best. I really like this time of year with all the promise of what lies ahead and the hope that the cold and frosty weather will help kill off the slugs and snails. We are busy getting rid of the last of the leaves lying on the ground so that none of these pesky little gastropods can lurk underneath a nice warm blanket. The leaves, of course, go on our enormous compost heap and decompose nicely ready for use in potting up the nursery stock or spreading on the borders. Work is continuing apace on hard pruning and renovation of trees, shrubs and climbers which have long been neglected. This is an ideal time to get down to tasks like this while growth is more or less dormant and, once I have steeled myself to get outside, I find it very satisfying and restorative out in the fresh air, even on the coldest days, especially if the sun is shining. The nursery itself is still, as I write, covered with snow and ice and there is little we can do there. Even the polytunnel is frozen solid at least we know that all our plants are hardy!

Welcome to the new Little
Coppice Nursery website. Take your time to browse the site and take in the information
on offer. Unfortunately the plant catalogue and discussion forum are not quite
ready yet, but rest assured we will be working hard to get them up as soon as
possible. If you would like to request a copy of our plant catalogue please
do and we will happily send or email you a copy.
After a successful outing on Mother's Day at Peckham, Pinner, Queens Park and East Finchley we are returning back to all our regular markets in the coming days. Get your plant orders ready, look out for our special offers, and don't forget to stock up in preparation for a few glorious days of gardening over Easter.
To all budding photographers, our catalogue is extensive with new plants being introduced all the time, however, it is seriously short of pictures. As such, we are running a photography competition. Have you any high-quality digital photos of plants that we can use? Both close-ups of named plants and general views of your garden are eligible for prizes. All pictures used on our website will be acknowledged and you will win a £5 plant voucher. The 'picture of the month' will take pride of place on our website and you will win £25 worth of plants for your pains. To enter all you have to do is email them to us. So come on, get out there with your camera and show off your best specimens!
Finally, a big thank you to all our customers, new and old, for all the support you have given us over the years. Hopefully together we will make this a year to remember.
